Every design carries a status showing where it sits in the shop's production pipeline. Statuses appear as a badge on the design and in the Designs list, and they drive the status chart in Analytics.
The defaults
A new store starts with six statuses in this order.

Customizing the pipeline
Statuses are edited per store in Store settings, under the Statuses tab. They can be renamed, reordered, recolored, added to, and removed.
Renaming changes only the display. Designs already carrying a status keep it, and removing a status does not delete any design.
Archived is a system status. It cannot be renamed, recoloured, or removed.
Changing a design's status
The status badge on a design opens a picker listing the store's statuses. Changing it takes effect immediately.
Because the pipeline is per store, a design moved between stores shows the status matching the store currently selected.
