New Features
Constant Text Wizard
Not every job needs variable data. The new Constant Text Wizard lets you generate plate designs with fixed, static text directly from the HomePage, without setting up a data table or variables. Enter your text and design parameters, choose your plate settings, and the wizard produces a finished design ready for export.
This is ideal for one-off plates, signage, and any job where the text is the same on every piece. It removes the extra steps of creating a data table when you simply need a single fixed design.
Element Rotation
Text and image elements can now be rotated to any angle in the plate editor. The auto-layout engine has been updated to account for rotation when positioning and sizing elements, so rotated text stays correctly aligned within the plate. Rotation is also fully preserved through SVG export, meaning what you design is exactly what gets engraved.
This opens up angled text, diagonal layouts, and rotated graphics for more creative and flexible plate designs.
Import Templates from Files
You can now import existing artwork as a reusable design template. Upload a PDF, EPS, or SVG file and Etch Express converts it into a template you can use as the starting point for new designs. This means existing artwork and layouts from outside the platform can be brought in and reused, rather than rebuilt from scratch.
Imported templates work just like templates you create inside Etch Express, and are available in both the single and multi-design creation flows.
PDF Crystal Templates with AI Classification
Crystal template uploads now accept PDF files in addition to SVG and EPS. For uploads where the item outline is ambiguous, a new AI classifier automatically analyzes the file and distinguishes the actual item outline from legend and text paths, so the correct cut path is identified without manual cleanup.
This makes crystal template setup faster and more reliable, especially when working with files that contain extra reference marks, labels, or annotations.
Quick Inventory Transactions
Recording inventory usage no longer requires navigating to the inventory page. A new quick transaction button in the side navigation lets you record a material transaction from anywhere in the app. Click the button, enter the details in the modal, and continue with your work.
This keeps your inventory accurate without interrupting your workflow, making it easy to log material usage the moment it happens.
Font Weight Selection
Font settings now include a dedicated weight dropdown. Choose from the available weights for your selected font (such as light, regular, medium, and bold) to get precise control over how your text appears. The dropdown is keyboard accessible and closes automatically when you click elsewhere or press Escape.
Improvements
Template Management
Managing your saved templates is now more flexible. You can rename templates and delete templates you no longer need directly from the templates page, each with clear confirmation and error handling. Templates also now support default background color and gutter spacing settings, so the look and layout you want carries through every time you start a design from that template.
Smarter Dropdown Positioning
Dropdown menus across the app, including design status badges, property panels, and settings cards, now detect available screen space and open upward or downward accordingly. This builds on the toolbar improvements from the last update and prevents menus from being clipped at the edges of your screen, regardless of where they sit in the viewport.
Larger AI Batch Processing
Rate limits for AI parsing have been increased to better support the Multi-Design Wizard. Larger batches of designs now process smoothly without hitting limits, making bulk creation from big spreadsheets faster and more reliable.
Bug Fixes
SVG Upload Rendering
Fixed an issue where uploaded SVG graphics that relied on root-level styling or embedded style blocks did not render correctly. SVG elements now correctly inherit presentation attributes from the root of the file when processed, and style blocks are properly handled during sanitization. Uploaded graphics now appear as intended.
Trial Period Accuracy
Fixed an issue where a store's trial status could be calculated incorrectly due to inconsistent date handling. Trial period checks now compare dates reliably, ensuring trial status is reported accurately.
