Roles and permissions

Access in Etch Express is controlled by three separate things. All three must align before a feature becomes available.

1. Organization role

Every person holds one role in the organization.

Role

Scope

Owner

Full control of the organization, its stores, and its members

Admin

Can manage the organization, its stores, and members' access

Member

Works within the stores they have been granted access to

Only owners and admins can change access levels.

2. Permission level, set per store

Each user holds a level on every major page, and the level is set separately for each store. A manager in one store may have no access in another.

Level

Capability

None

The page is hidden

Viewer

View only

Editor

View and change

Manager

View, change, and delete

The five pages are Home, Designs, Materials, Analytics, and Billing.

Store Settings works differently: each of its seven tabs carries its own level, so seeing only some tabs is normal.

Note: Analytics is view-only in practice, so viewer is effectively equivalent to manager there.

3. Store plan

The store's plan applies independently of every permission above.

  • Core covers designs, the plate and bed editors, templates, and export

  • Material Management, an addition to Core, covers materials and inventory

Where a store's plan does not include a feature, it is unavailable regardless of permission level.

Changing access

Owners and admins manage access from Organization Settings, in the members list. Select the person, then use Store Access to set store membership and the level held on each page.

Changes take effect the next time the affected user's browser loads the page.

For help working out which of the three is blocking a specific feature, see Why a page or button is missing.
