Working with data tables

After creating a design, you’ll land on the Design Detail page where you can review, edit, and manage all your recipient data before sending it to the Plate Editor. This guide covers everything you can do with the Data Table.

A data table holds the values a design engraves. Each design has one table, with column headers and one row per item.

Structure

Headers name the columns, and variables on the plate reference them by name. A column headed First Name is placed on a plate as {First Name}, matching exactly including spaces and capitalization.

One row produces one engraved item.

Getting data in

Route

Use when

Import a spreadsheet

The data already exists as CSV

AI parsing

The source file is XLS or XLSX, or is messy or oddly structured

Manual entry

Only a handful of rows are needed

See Import a spreadsheet for the import steps.

Editing

Cells can be edited directly. For structural changes, describing the change in plain language is faster than editing cell by cell. See Edit a data table with AI.

Searching

Large tables can be searched, which is the quickest way to correct a single misspelled name in a run of several hundred.

Checking before export

Preview Mode in the Plate Editor renders the longest entry in the table, which is the value most likely to overflow a plate. Checking there catches sizing problems before any material is cut.
