Find and replace

Find and replace corrects recurring text from the Bed Editor, rather than one cell or one plate element at a time. It searches two different things, chosen with a scope toggle.

The two scopes

Scope

Searches

Data

Values held in the design's data table

Plate Text

Static text placed on the plate design

Opening it

The Find & Replace button sits at the top right of the bed canvas, below the zoom controls. Cmd/Ctrl + F opens and closes the same panel, and Escape closes it.

This is a Bed Editor tool.

The data table has a separate find and replace of its own, reached with the same Cmd/Ctrl + F while the grid is in edit mode; the Plate Editor has neither.

Steps

  1. Open the design in the Bed Editor

  2. Open Find & Replace with Cmd/Ctrl + F, or with the button on the canvas

  3. Set the scope toggle to Data or Plate Text

  4. Enter the text to find, and the text to replace it with

  5. Step through matches with Enter and Shift + Enter, or the arrow buttons in the panel

  6. Select Replace for the current match, or All for every match

Filtering compared with replacing

The Filter panel narrows which plates are drawn on the canvas and included in an export. It does not narrow a replacement. With a filter active, selecting "Replace all" still rewrites every matching cell in the data table, including rows the filter is hiding.
